What Makes a BPMS a, well, a BPMS?

Periodically, BPMInstitute.org along with Bruce Silver Associates comes up with a series of reports on BPM systems. Each report covers a single product along with an “apples-to-apples” product comparison. Essentially the report states what makes a BPMS a BPMS!

There are 12 categories all weighted by four process types: Task Routing, Production Workflow, Case Management and Integration Centric.

Here’s their list:

  1. Architecture and Environment
  2. Modeling
  3. Human Workflow
  4. User Experience
  5. Content, Collaboration and Case Management
  6. Business Rule Management
  7. Integration
  8. Events and Exceptions
  9. Performance Management and BAM
  10. Governance
  11. Solutions and Services
  12. References (installed customers)

Since AuraPortal was not mentioned in their reports, yet, I thought it would be fun to start a series and discuss each of these categories over a period of time.

The next article in this series, we will focus on Architecture and Environment.

Until next time.
